First Kill TV Show Season 1 Review
First Kill |
Synopsis: Falling in love is tricky for teens Juliette and Calliope because one's a vampire and the other's a vampire hunter -- and both are ready to make their first kill.
Initial Thoughts: Goodness, this show is so baddddd! I'm not even exaggerating. The dialogues and writing is so cringe, the characters had potentials but were badly executed, and so many plot holes. The overarching story is good, and has so much potential but the execution is done horribly. I literally have to take a break while watching, to cringe and get myself together. And don't get me started on the cgi. I get it, the budget was low, but its low budget isn't an excuse for the horrible writing and bad acting. Istg, the only good actress on this show was Talia, Calliope's mother. Never in a million years, did I think another show could be as horrible as Shadowhunters, but Netflix really said, "hold my good writing". 💀Shadowhunters was bad, but not this bad. Hell, even the actors of Gossip Girl reboot did better than these actors. I wanna take the show seriously, the show wants you to take it seriously, but you can't because you'll be like, "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS DIALOGUE?!"
Every second of this show, you'll hear a song that did not need to be played in that scene. And the main character, Juliette was so annoying, naive and stupid. The way she easily betrayed her sister, Elinor. Jeez. I preferred Calliope, the only thing that irked me about her was the stance of intimidation she tried to mimick every other second but just came off as...😖😖 If the show is renewed, I hope Juliette and Calliope's relationship get better writing because jeez. And I wanna punch the casting directors. Elinor would have been my favourite character if she had better writing, but I like her. Then she and Apollo could go off to have an enemy to lovers romance trope... With that said, Talia was my favourite character. I hate that you can't criticize this show without ppl calling you "homophobic" and "hating wlw representation", like no. The show is bad, has nothing to do with the main characters being lesbians. Heart stopper was literally so good, with wayyyy better writing & characters.
Oliver's actor was legit the worst actor on this show. He couldn't act to save his life, none of the actors could, except Talia's actress ofc. One thing that got me about this show was how, the vampires would run like humans when in danger, instead of using their vamp speed, but use vamp speed at the stupidest moments. It was frustrating and so funny. I need to rewatch The Vampire Diaries and The Originals to remember what actual vampires were like. And please STOP comparing this dumpster fire to The Vampire Diaries, that's so disrespectful to the The Vampire Diaries Universe. Rather compare it to something like Shadowhunters. They have so much in common; terrible acting, poor cgi, bad script, weak dialogue, weak plot, but good story with potentials that was so poorly executed, you'd wanna cry.
Final Thoughts: One thing that shouldn't have, annoyed me as much as it did, as mentioned before, were the unnecessary songs in certain scenes. It got to a point that it was just funny and not even annoying anymore. Weirdly, I hope the show gets renewed for a second season so they have a chance to improve and get better writers! Hell, recast majority of the show, don't I love the cast. But pleaseee, increase the budget.
Conclusion: I'd rate the show or at least the first season a 4.2/10. Writing: 0.5, characters: 0.75, acting: 0.5, plot: 0.5, story: 2.
